Preference for the second presidential debate – El Financiero

The second presidential debate has revealed an intensification in the Mexican political environment, showing both the strengths and vulnerabilities of the candidates under the pressure of an electoral campaign that gives no respite. When comparing their performances and the public reactions in both debates, changing dynamics emerge that, although interesting, have not significantly modified the electoral landscape.

The audience for the first debate was higher, reaching 22.6 million viewers, in contrast to 16.9 million for the second. This decrease in audience could suggest less public interest. Despite this, since the beginning of the campaign, the image of Claudia Sheinbaum as a future winner seems to be consolidated.

According to Metrics analysis, during the debate and in the post-debate, Claudia Sheinbaum maintained a constant preference of 57%. Xóchitl Gálvez, for his part, experienced a slight decrease of 1% in post-debate preference, while Jorge Álvarez Máynez observed an increase of 1%, evidencing an improvement in his positioning, thanks to this second electoral event.

In the first meeting, Sheinbaum stood out as the clear favorite, praised for her preparation and mastery of the topics. In this second meeting, the candidate of “Let’s Keep Making History” stood out for her proposals, especially on agrarian and social issues, an increase in criticism directed towards her was noted, reflecting growing pressure and more coordinated attacks by her opponents. .

Xóchitl Gálvez was initially criticized for the lack of concrete proposals, she managed to reverse that image in the second debate.

Jorge Álvarez Máynez, who had gone more unnoticed in the first debate, managed to raise his profile in the second. Recognized thanks to his focus on specific proposals and his closeness to the public.
