The Yellow May 2024 campaign, in defense of road safety, starts this Tuesday, 30th, on federal highways. According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), it involves all 27 superintendencies and more than 150 police stations.

The initiative aims to intensify traffic educational activities and the campaign is brought forward to today due to the May 1st holiday, Labor Day.

Once again, the Road Cinema action will be implemented, in which drivers are approached and invited to watch lectures and educational videos on safe traffic behavior. Trucks will be prepared and parked in some locations, to serve as mini cinemas.

“The PRF will also maintain an advertising campaign on its official social networks focusing on the lack of attention and the lack of reaction or late reaction, factors that contribute to the lethality of accidents in BR’s”, informed the agency in a note.

With the initiative, the entity seeks to reduce the number of accidents and fatalities on the country’s roads. Inspection actions are also planned to prevent risky behavior, especially speeding, undue overtaking, drunk driving, failure to use seat belts and helmets, irregular transportation of children and use of cell phones while driving. .

“In this year’s edition, during the approaches, the PRF will pay special attention to motorcyclists. The reason is the increase that the corporation has been recording in occurrences involving this type of vehicle”, detailed the PRF, highlighting that 7,119 motorcycle accidents were recorded in the first quarter of 2024, and that, in the same period last year, this number was at 6,259.

“These occurrences resulted in 434 deaths (compared to 391 in the first quarter of 2023) and 8,590 injuries (7,008 in the same period last year),” he added.
