Warwick Farm trainer Joseph Pride is banking on a touch of class to enable the talented Make A Call to snap a 19-start drought when lining up in the Wyong Leagues Group Super Maiden Plate (1300m) at Wyong on Thursday.
Formerly trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Make A Call has only had three starts since joining the Pride stable and the trainer is hopeful he has found the right race to kick off his winning account at Wyong.
“He’s a horse that has always shown ability,” said Pride.
“He was runner-up to Tom Kitten in the Fernhill as a two-year-old when the Snowdens had him.
“He ran good races in group 1s as a two-year-old and ran in the Victoria Derby last spring.
“It’s a bit hard to believe he hasn’t won a race already.”
Make A Call debuted for Pride with a seventh at Kembla Grange, before finishing fifth to Stand Aside at Warwick Farm. He heads into the Wyong event on the back of a fast-finishing second at the track last time out behind Bellenth.
“It took a handy horse to beat him in his latest start when he charged home,” said Pride.
“He’s in a slightly smaller field on Thursday and Rory Hutchings takes over the ride. There’s no doubting the horse has plenty of upside, and I’d like to think if the breaks go his way then he can open his winning account.”
