Procession held for fallen CPD officer

CHICAGO — The body of fallen Chicago police officer Luis M. Huesca is expected to transported from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office to a funeral home in Oak Lawn Tuesday.

Huesca was shot and killed Sunday.

WGN plans to stream the procession which is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

He was returning from work and was in the 3100 block of West 56th Street early Sunday when he was shot and killed. Huesca was off-duty, but police say he was found in his uniform, shot multiple times. Currently, it is unclear what led to the shooting, and while police have not confirmed that Huesca was the victim of a carjacking, they did say his vehicle was stolen.

On Monday, police released photographs and a video captured by surveillance cameras showing an individual believed to be connected to the deadly shooting.

Police are not yet calling this person a suspect in Huesca’s shooting death but rather a person of interest. Officers say the individual should be considered armed and dangerous.

Huesca would’ve turned 31 on Tuesday.
