Rio – Still no answers about the structural repair works of the staircase at risk of collapsing In the Jardim Pindorama condominium, in Jacarepaguá, West Zone of the city, local residents decided to create a petition to demand that the City Council resolve the problem, which has been going on for more than four years. The document, which gathers around 300 signatures, was sent to the City Council this Friday (19).

Signed by practically all condominium owners, the petition was organized by the vice-president of the Jardim Pindorama Residents’ Association, Amadeu da Rosa Costa, who sent the 10-page document to councilor Carlo Caiado, president of the Chamber.

This is not the first time that condominium owners have sought help from the parliamentarian. In November 2021, a document was also sent to Caiado, who requested Mayor Eduardo Paes, together with the Municipal Infrastructure Secretariat (SMI), to carry out the repair work on the space. However, to date, only drainage work was carried out on site.

Resident Adriana de Lima Soares, 54 years old, has her home directly affected by the problem. With cracked walls and a hole in her yard, she reported to the DAY who is afraid of his house collapsing. For Adriana, this document is one of the last hopes for this problem to be resolved.

“We have to have hope. This has to be resolved, but I’m getting discouraged. I keep crying because I don’t know what to do anymore, I can’t sleep properly anymore. I’m already very tired of this situation”, she lamented.

Last Wednesday (17) a representative from Rio-Águas was at the condominium to check the situation. According to information from residents, they were told that this would be a large-scale project, which is beyond the concessionaire’s responsibility. According to residents, for the renovation to be carried out, it is necessary for the City Hall to release funds.

After an inspection carried out on February 20th, by the former deputy mayor of Jacarepaguá, Marli Peçanha, residents were promised that, by the beginning of March, a technical report with budget and details of the work would be sent to the City Hall.

“Over the years, people have come here and said they couldn’t do much. It’s difficult to fight to have their own place, pay for their things on time and they don’t have the responsibility to do their obligations. It’s all very sad”, added Adriana.

When contacted, the City Hall, the sub-prefecture of Jacarepaguá and Rio-Águas have not yet taken a position. The space remains open for demonstrations.
