The city of São Paulo will gain another 3,300 licenses for taxi drivers, according to a decree signed this Saturday, the 20th, by Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB). The mayor also announced two new taxi categories: “executive” and “accessible”. They will have the same fare table as the common category.
The executive service will be aimed at corporate audiences and category events. To do this, cars must be manufactured for a maximum of five years, have four doors, be black and have a maximum capacity for seven passengers.
Drivers must be registered with the Municipal Taxi Driver Registry (Condutax) and have at least two years of experience in the city. Black cabs can share points with regular taxis, but they can also create exclusive points. Regular taxis can be up to ten years old and are white in color.
The accessible service consists of cars adapted to transport people with disabilities, in accordance with the rules of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards and the requirements of municipal bodies. Drivers must have Condutax, in addition to a special course for transporting people with disabilities.
“We are adapting the city’s reality to the needs of taxi drivers so that we can have a taxi system that is increasingly used and fluid”, highlighted Nunes in a note.
The City Hall also authorized the use of double-cab trucks, weighing up to three and a half tons, for service in the capital. But taxi drivers will not be able to charge additional fees for transporting items in the truck bed.
The mayor also announced the draw of 3,300 new taxi parking permits (new licenses for taxi drivers) and 3,700 spaces at 1,200 taxi ranks in the city, including Congonhas Airport. Draw dates and rules have not yet been announced.
