Secretariat of Citizenship and Human Rights of Nilópolis promotes Seminar on Sickle Cell Anemia | Nilópolis

Nilópolis – Last Tuesday (24), the 1st Seminar on Sickle Cell Anemia and Its Complications was held in Nilópolis. The event held by the Municipal Secretariat of Citizenship and Human Rights, through the Superintendence for the Promotion of Racial Equality, and with technical support from the Municipal Superintendency of Councils, took place in the auditorium of the 24th Subsection of the OAB, in the Center

With the aim of contributing to the implementation of public policies in the municipality, professionals in the field spoke about sickle cell anemia, its complications, treatment and prevention. This is a genetic and hereditary disease caused by an abnormality in the hemoglobin of red blood cells and mainly affects the black population.

People with sickle cell disease spoke about their experiences with the difficulties they faced in receiving the diagnosis. They also highlighted the need for training professionals in several municipalities in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

The lectures were given by the state coordinator of implementation of the Focal Point and Committee, doctor Ester Dantas, who highlighted the importance of this mechanism for sickle cell patients. Nurse Helder Santos clarified the applicability of the mechanism.

Continuing, Maria da Fé, member of the State Committee for Racial Equity and the Municipal Council for the Promotion of Racial Equality of São João de Meriti, emphasized the need for this public policy. Doctor Liliane Graciano, president of the Racial Equity Commission, spoke about some legal rights relating to public health. Doctor Marilourdes dos Santos spoke about the disease.

Also participating in the event were members of the Municipal Council for the Promotion of Racial Equality (COMPIR), the municipal secretary of Citizenship and Human Rights Luciano Moraes, the undersecretary of Health Dr. André Loureiro. He confirmed that the municipal government wants to do what is best for the Nilopolitan citizen and create a focal point and committee with maximum quality.

Also participating in the seminar were the General Clinic of the Municipality, doctor Valdete Casas Silva Narciso, the municipal superintendent of councils, Inez Simpliciano, the superintendent of Women’s Rights and manager of the Reference Center for Women Victims of Domestic Violence, Professor Nilcéa Clara Cardoso, as well as of Dr. Getúlio Sessim and institutions and representatives of the Nilopolitan Civil Society and other municipalities.
