Sheinbaum in favor of receiving private investment in electricity generation – El Financiero

If he wins the presidential election, Claudia Sheinbaumcandidate of the “Let’s Keep Making History” coalition, would be in favor of receiving private investment in electricity generation projectsalthough activities linked to electrical transmission and distribution will continue to be exclusive tasks of the State, clarified Jorge Islas Samperio, energy coordinator of the Morenista campaign.

He explained that one of the priorities of the Sheinbaum energy policy will be to maintain an open dialogue and clear rules with private investors, with the aim of avoiding legal disputes in court.

“We want the private sector to accompany us, for there to be fewer disputes in courts and more dialogue, we are not closed to private financing, as long as the premise is maintained that the Federal electricity commission (CFE) produces 56 percent of the country’s energy and the private sector contributes the remaining 44 percent,” he stressed.

The specialist explained that one of the ways to work hand in hand with the private sector will be to promote projects in electricity generation under the ‘build-operate-transfer’ scheme, in which an investor can build, operate and transfer a project. to the State.

Samperio Islands pointed out that Claudia Sheinbaum wants to be remembered as the president who promoted the renewable energy and energy efficiency, so it will be essential for the CFE to invest in electrical transmission and distribution networks, as well as promote more technologies to generate electrical energy.

“Electric transmission and the energy transition are strongly linked and Dr. Sheinbaum knows it, so we also want to promote technologies such as geothermal, hydroelectric, bioenergy, in addition to strengthening the presence of solar and wind energy, we even have calculations that the “The country has the potential to add more than 4 thousand MW through cogeneration technology (simultaneous production of heat and electricity).”

Likewise, Sheinbaum’s energy coordinator announced that they are already working on regulating the electromobility in the country, with the aim of increasing the presence of electric transportation in the country.

“We will focus on social electromobility, we want to start by electrifying transportation in the country’s large cities, as happened with the Metrobús and the cablebús in CDMX, although we will also work on standards that can make internal combustion engines more efficient, in what we carry out the energy transition,” he noted.

They want to stabilize hydrocarbon production

On the other hand, Jorge Islas pointed out that Claudia Sheinbaum will seek to make the platform liquid hydrocarbons (oil, condensate and gas liquids) stabilizes at 1 million 800 thousand barrels per day, a figure lower than the 2 million 40 thousand barrels per day that were produced, on average, during 2023.

To maintain production levels, the Morenista Government will have to continue injecting resources into Pemex“If required, we will continue to financially support Pemex to move forward,” he said.

The specialist ruled out that the Sheinbaum government would sell assets or refineries, and would even try to rescue the company. petrochemical industry so that the country does not depend so much on imports.

Although Pemex will stop exporting crude oil to feed the refineries of the country, Samperio Islands considered it a good strategy, since, although a good part of ‘black gold’ will no longer be sold, less will be spent on purchasing fuel.

“We hope that the refineries operate at 70 percent of their capacity to be in line with what international levels recommend,” he noted.
