Sheinbaum promises to maintain financial discipline, without tax reform – El Financiero

ACAPULCO.- Claudia Sheinbaumpresidential candidate for Morena, the Green Party and the PT, committed to representatives of the country’s financial elite to maintain fiscal discipline and reduce the deficit in 2025 without carrying out a tax reform.

During his participation in the 87th Banking Convention, he guaranteed that he will respect the autonomy of the Bank of Mexico, “I know that you are interested in this issue,” he said to the bankers.

She explained that, if she becomes president of Mexico, she will not increase the deficit nor the debt significantly; “We are going to maintain the stability and financial responsibility of the current government,” she stressed.

He pointed out that the deficit is an issue for only this year, because the President made the decision to pay for the vast majority of major strategic works this year.

“It is not that we are going to carry the deficit for the following years, but this year in particular. And in the coming years we obviously have to have a decrease in the deficit to reach 3.0 percent,” he asserted.

Likewise, the candidate of the Let’s Keep Making History coalition committed to not raise gasoline in real terms.

I consider that It is not necessary to carry out a tax reform that raises taxespointing out that resources can be obtained through digitalization and simplification of tax payments for individuals and corporations, as well as the modernization of customs.

Sheinbaum contemplated other important income, “but for now we are not thinking about a tax reform and if we were to think about it we would have to talk about it.”

The presidential candidate committed to maintaining a dialogue with businessmen for economic decision-making, pointing out that during the current administration the most important changes such as the salary increase or the outsourcing reform have been made by consensus with businessmen.

Likewise, he proposed that the minimum wage should reach 2.5 of the basic basket and it would be achieved, if he won the presidency, through a consensus, but not only in this area but also infrastructure, housing and the issue of pensions.

Every year, representatives of the financial sector and government officials, in addition to the President of the Republic in turn, meet at the Banking Convention, where they discuss issues of innovation and financial education. This year we will also talk about the water crisis, climate change and artificial intelligence.

Sheinbaum defends the Welfare Pension Fund, proposed by Morena

Also in the Banking Convention, regarding the controversy generated by the creation of the Pension Fund for Wellbeing with seed capital from inactive accounts of the Afores, he stressed that the workers’ resources will not be touched.

Going forward this idea would prevail, since he calculated that “the pension fund allows us to maintain the next 10 years and after that work with the private sector to see how the condition improves,” he declared.

A day before, in her conference in Hidalgo, the Morena candidate also defended the creation of the Pension Fund.

“What we are looking for is to establish a Pension Fund (…) The idea is to recover the pensions of the workers, that is what it is about. So this idea that ‘the pensions, the Afores, are going to be taken away from the workers’ is false,” said the presidential candidate.

On the first day of the Banking Convention on Thursday, the Ministry of Finance also advocated for the financing of this Fundwhich is being discussed by legislators.

Undersecretary Gabriel Yorio reiterated that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has made it clear that resources will not be taken from pensions, since “it has never been the spirit” of the initiative.

And he highlighted that in the current law, there is an article that allows the resources of inactive Afores accounts to be used temporarily and must be paid if requested.

Yorio also pointed out that the majority of the financing sources contemplated in the initiative are budget savings, and those Inactive resources from Afores accounts would be added.
