Rio – A shooting in Vigário Geral, in the North Zone, affected the circulation of trains on the Saracuruna branch, this Wednesday (8). Since early morning, teams from the 16th BPM (Olaria) have been carrying out an operation in the region and in the communities of Cidade Alta, Parada de Lucas, Cinco Bocas and Pica-Pau. Due to the action, five stations were closed and on social media, passengers shared images of the Duque de Caxias station, in Baixada Fluminense, which was crowded. Check it out below.
At around 7:30 am, the Saracuruna branch entered the normalization process, but still only operates on the stretch between Central do Brasil and Penha and between Duque de Caxias and Saracuruna, with an average interval of 30 minutes. The Penha Circular, Brás de Pina, Cordovil, Parada de Lucas and Vigário Geral stations were also reopened.
According to the Military Police, the 1st Area Policing Command (CPA) and the Special Operations Support Center (NAOE) are also involved in the action. The teams intend to repress local organized crime, responsible for the theft of vehicles and cargo, and remove barricades from roads in the region. Also due to the confrontation, the Heitor dos Prazeres Family Clinic, in Brás de Pina, and the José Breves dos Santos Municipal Health Center, in Cordovil, activated the safer access protocol and, for the safety of professionals and users, suspended operation on Wednesday morning. So far, there have been no reports of injuries or arrests in the operation. A 5.56 caliber rifle was seized in Cidade Alta.
