Rio – An intense shooting once again frightened residents of Morro dos Macacos, in Vila Isabel, in the North Zone, during the early hours of this Thursday (2). The region has been the target of constant clashes due to a dispute over territory between rival criminals.

According to the Military Police, agents from the Morro dos Macacos Pacification Police Unit (UPP/Macacos) were called to check information about gunshots in the forested area of the community. However, the suspects managed to escape before teams arrived. Policing was reinforced in the region.

On social media, images recorded by residents show the intense exchange of gunfire. At one point, one of the shots hit a transformer, which exploded, leaving part of the community without power.

For months, the community has been suffering from constant clashes between drug traffickers from the Third Pure Command (TCP), who command the region, and criminals from the Red Command (CV), who would be interested in expanding the group’s control to the area.
