According to preliminary information, the explosion was caused by a gasoline leak. At the time of the accident, there were five passengers on board – two adults, a teenager and two children – in addition to the driver. All occupants of the vessel suffered third-degree burns, with the children and their mother being the most seriously injured.
The Maritime Guard, which was undergoing training on site with the Military Police and the Navy on the nautical license, was the first to arrive at the scene of the accident. The agents provided first aid to the victims and took them to the deck, where they received medical attention from the ambulance team.
Three of the injured were taken to a health unit by the Fire Department, while the other three were transported by the Military Police. The health status of the victims has not yet been released.
The causes of the explosion are still being investigated.
