Ten years of Morena – El Financiero

Morena celebrates ten years of having achieved its registration as a political party. It is a decade in the Mexican electoral competition. Although it is true that it is a short time, it is not the time that its leaders have been in national politics; Specifically, its leader, founder and all-powerful leader, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has been in the leadership of three different parties throughout his career.

Morena was born as a movement to avoid the rigidities of the parties and to compete in a different way with the Mexican partyocracy, so discredited for more than a decade. López Obrador, the undisputed leader of that opposition wing, found in Morena the key he needed to obtain a vehicle that would take him to the presidency of the country, something that, as we all know, he achieved overwhelmingly in the 2018 elections. Four years They were enough for the Tabasco native to fulfill his two-decade dream.

Certainly, there is nothing new in what López Obrador has done, but we must recognize his undeniable merits, such as his stubbornness in forming his own organization, and knowing how to take advantage of the opposition’s corruption and degradation to draw torrents of water into his mill. It seems to me that one of the biggest mistakes of his opponents is precisely in not recognizing his merits, achievements, and triumphs. Only from that recognition can strategies be developed against it.

Morena’s results are in sight. If there is no government in the elections, 23 of the 32 states in the country are in their hands today. Plus its majority in the legislatures and, above all, the imposition of an authoritarian and despotic model commanded by its leader who was the candidate with the most votes in the presidential elections of modern times in our country. Although it is true that he competes with other presidents (Zedillo, Fox and Calderón) in popularity numbers in his last year of government, the truth is that also the acceptance of his policies, decisions, and even his confrontations with other elements of the national policy, enjoy wide acceptance.

If it were nothing more than AMLO’s career, we could say that the guy can be satisfied with what he has achieved and that he could retire to his house, ranch or whatever with the peace of mind of having fulfilled his duty. We know that this will not happen and that what is coming will not be easy for the Morenoist forces to process, since the division already seems to appear in those parts. And not only that. With López Obrador the era of the Morenoist steamroller will also go away, which will give more emphasis to his own leadership in the movement, since he will love to emphasize the well-known phrase “after me, the flood.”

In effect, Morena, with ten years of experience and now six in the Presidency of the country, faces the beginning of decline and defeat is already taking place in what was the Lopez-Zobradorist and Morenist stronghold: Mexico City. The elections in this entity will not be a picnic for the President’s movement; On the contrary, Santiago Taboada – a PAN member determined to win – has raised the alarm about the defeat that would hurt the President’s movement the most: the cradle of his national political life, the place of his triumphs and demonstrations, the refuge of his henchmen, the school of his paintings. And well, the problem with growing so quickly in this type of things is that it is very easy to forget that as you go up, you go down. They’re already coming down.
