Theft from workers’ pensions – El Financiero

At quarter to twelve, that is, when the LXV Legislature has five sessions left to complete its last period of sessions, the legislators of Morena and Remoras will approve the pension reform initiative, with which they will be taken away from workers their resources that they have saved in the Afores, with the lure that their pension will be improved with the surpluses generated by the Mayan Train and other pharaonic works of López Obrador.

We have said in this space that everything that the president promotes must be put through the crucible of elections, so we will say that this initiative has electoral purposes, since it seeks to gain the sympathies of workers who receive incomes of less than 16 thousand pesos per month. .

Furthermore, given the bankruptcy in which the 4T government finds itself, they are looking for resources even below the rocks, below the Afores, to have the cash required June 2.

This assertion is not far-fetched, since, given the real possibility of an alternation in power occurring, a state election is being prepared that will prevent López Obrador from handing over the presidential sash to Xóchitl Gálvez in every possible way.

According to experts, budget spending on pensions, if the reform in question is approved, would rise from 5.8 percent of GDP to 7.8 percent by 2030, thereby putting Mexico’s finances at risk. increase spending.

By pulling the Budget blanket, other requirements that the population has such as health, education and social inclusion, public safety, etc. are uncovered.

As can be seen, President López Obrador is leaving the country in a very precarious situation for the next six years.

If, in itself, it is necessary to contract more debt to cover the Budget, by the time the next president’s six-year term begins, things will be more complicated.

The cursed inheritance that AMLO leaves to his successor limits his financial and budgetary margins of maneuver to promote the new proposals he issued in the political campaign. We will say that, regardless of who wins the election, they will not be able to keep their promises unless they promote a tax reform that involves a great punishment for captive taxpayers.

If you really want to improve the pension system, you would not resort to these electoral measures that seek to steal resources from workers; On the contrary, they should inject federal resources into the Afores to compensate for the loss of purchasing power.

The pension reform proposal aims to impact and influence the elections with the story that workers will retire with their last salary.

In practice, they intend to confiscate the individual accounts of workers between 70 and 75 years of age, both from the IMSS and the ISSSTE, that are inactive and transfer them to the Pension Fund for Wellbeing.

I share the opinion of the candidate for senator Verónica Juárez Piña, that “the proposal would affect the poorest workers in the country, that is, those who could not obtain a pension and who have not had the few resources available to them.” “They were able to save for years due to the lack of an information campaign by both the National Commission of the Retirement Savings System and the Afores themselves.”

The current Afore law establishes that workers who have reached retirement age can use their resources saved in their Afore or, in the event of death, their beneficiaries can do so.

López Obrador proposes using this unclaimed savings to partially finance the Pension Fund for Wellbeing, which is not only a financially unviable proposal, but also insufficient to resolve the crisis of the pension system.

The fund would have to have legal and financial certainty. Proposing to finance it initially with resources from workers who have not had their retirement savings and in the long term with the profits from the mega works, is simply unfeasible because so far, and everything indicates for the rest of its operation, these works They are white elephants that will have to be supported with public resources.

The opposition legislators, PAN, PRI and PRD, threaten to promote an unconstitutionality action to annul the reform that will be approved by the rampant majority of Morena, PVEM and PT in the Chamber of Deputies and that the SCJN will surely reverse.
