They are already leaving

Next will be the last week of the current Legislature, at least in its regular work. They close with a bang: they want to rob those over 70, annul judges and the Supreme Court, and give the president the ability to amnesty any criminal, whether his last name is Gatell, Zaldívar, or López. I mean, to give examples.

This end of the six-year term is being totally clear. The group in power is there to never let go, and to steal everything they can. If someone does not see it, it is due to extraordinary limitations, or because they do not want to see it.

The idea of appropriating the money found in Afores from people over 70 years old is theft, there is no other word. These are personal financial accounts, not funds or trusts. It is as if it occurred to them to legislate that the bank accounts of people whose surname begins with S will be seized in order to finance those who begin their surname with L. If that seems absurd to you, it is exactly the same thing that is being approved in the Chamber of Deputies. Deputies.

The Senate’s strange idea that the suspension issued by a judge can be ended is nothing other than erasing the existence of the Judicial Branch. From that moment on, Congress could approve totally unconstitutional laws (such as the Afores case mentioned above) without anyone being able to defend themselves. If, as is the case today, the Legislature is controlled by the Executive, then the three powers would be in the hands of a single person. This is usually called “dictatorship.”

Desperation is catching up with them. Despite having distributed money hand over fist during the first three months of the year (remember that they advanced payments, because since April they can no longer deliver), it turns out that economic activity in those months was lower than what we had at the end of last year . Against the first quarter of 2023, there is a pyrrhic growth of 1.6%. Very few will be waiting for the publication of the first quarter GDP in a month, but everyone is feeling it right now. The expectation we had was that there would be a good performance in the first half of the year, fueled by electoral and electoral spending, but it turns out that this was not the case. Imagine how it will be after the election, when everything has already been spent, because on June 3 the world ends, as we mentioned last week.

In the few surveys with daily monitoring, whether of presidential approval or voting intention, the movement towards the floor is very clear. The conflict with Ecuador does not seem to have had any impact, nor did the first debate move the trends. Exhaustion is evident in large groups that maintained hope for more than five years, but five months before the end of the government they are no longer so sure that it will be fulfilled. The permanent claim from the Palace to an increasingly remote past, to a Judicial Power that few people really understand, the continuous confrontation, are tiring those who thought that the change would solve their problems. It’s not like that, because it never is, but now they had insisted that it would work.

They close their government showing everything: thieves, brawlers, improvised, incapable. People just wanted security, some honesty and a little support. They achieved nothing, and they see that the show is not over, that they promise that now it is, that by giving money to some it will be enough for others. No investments are seen, much less nearshoring. Formal employment is no longer generated. Food prices, and especially health spending, ate up more than the advance in salaries.

A bad experiment, not worth repeating.
