They postpone electoral reforms, to the PJF, to GN, vs. autonomous bodies… – El Financiero

The Chamber of Deputies buried the 20 reform initiatives that the President sent on February 5, and the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) left them off the agenda for the closing of its last regular sessionon Tuesday, April 30.

This package includes, among others, reforms to choose from popular vote for members of the Judiciaryhim, modify the electoral systemthat the National Guard goes to Sedena and the disappearance of the autonomous organs.

The coordinator of the Morena deputies, Ignacio Mier, justified that “it was unanimously approved to hold the dialogues, they have already concluded and a report, the white papers of the forums, will be presented. But the National Action Party considers that it is no longer time, They are constitutional and we need to build a qualified majority” which is not available, he admitted.

The coordinator of the PAN and president of the Jucopo, Jorge Romeroconfirmed that the Executive reforms “are no longer an issue” for the closing of this last period of sessions”, because “there was no flexibility” from the President or Morena.

“At least for this 65th Legislature, yes, without a doubt (they are dead initiatives), and not with a mortuary desire. I say it with arithmetic, chronological clarity, it is impossible,” he said.

He explained that from the beginning, when the initiatives were received, “we said it, that Not only would the President’s reforms be approved, but they would be interspersed with the opposition’s initiativesbut there was no flexibility on their part.”

Furthermore, the PAN ruled out a possible special sessionconsidering that there are no conditions.

“It is inferred, it is almost impossible, it is impossible, two thirds (of the votes of the members in the Permanent Commission for an extraordinary) are required and no, it is not going to happen,” he indicated.

Regarding the validity of the presidential initiatives, he explained that “The initiatives and opinions are valid within their legislature, so their validity would end.”, because they didn’t even have a ruling. When there are opinions, they have a lifespan of 45 days or another 45, up to 90, if an extension is granted.”

About the reform for a 40 hour work dayreported that it is also “out” by instructions from the National Palace. “Of the 40 hours, the one who doesn’t want me to come out is Morena, so they should stop throwing themselves around.”

“Here they were pushing her and it only took one morning to say that she was better later. They no longer know what to say or how to argue, they told them ‘this is not going to work out’ and it’s over,” commented the PAN member.

When consulted by this newspaper, some legislators from Morena and the PT commented that President López Obrador’s reforms “they were stopped because the legislative process decided on the longest route”with forums and consultations, but “stopped working on agreements with the opposition.”

One of Morena’s vice coordinators commented that “I think were not processed so as not to erode the initiativesby not having the support to reach a qualified majority.”

However, they assured thatClaudia Sheinbaum “It neither promoted nor stopped the President’s initiatives.” Although some are confident that “some can still come out between now and next Tuesday.”

PAN deputies affirm that “it was very clear that everything was fireworks from the beginning,” because later “there were no rapprochements or negotiations. They neither pushed forward nor retreated. “It was pure noise.”

The leader of the PRI in San Lázaro, Ruben Moreiracommented that it was Morena who stopped the President’s initiatives, because “he let time pass, “It did not seek agreements and the opportunity to be voted on was lost.”

He maintained that today “they are no longer on the agenda, they will be discarded and according to the regulations they have to be presented again in case they want to approve them in the next legislature.”

“Morena has let the deadline pass and with this has eliminated the possibility of voting. I think it would be important for Morena to vote or at least give the possibility for the 40-hour week to be voted on,” he noted.
