He President of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, announced this Monday, April 29, in an institutional statement from the Moncloa Palace that the Executive will continue to lead. “I have decided to continue”he announced, while pointing out that this decision is “a point and apart” and has called on the social majority to mobilize.
The announcement by the Chief Executive this Monday comes five days after he communicated through a letter on the internet a period of reflection to decide on his continuity at the head of the Government. Sánchez, who had denounced a harassment campaign against him and his wife, pointed out that “confusing freedom of expression with defamation is a democratic perversion with disastrous consequences.”
“I have decided to continue, to continue with even more strength if possible.” at the head of the Presidency. This decision does not mean a full stop, It’s a point and apart, I guarantee it.”, he indicated. “That is why I assume before you my commitment to work tirelessly, firmly and with serenity for the pending regeneration of our democracy,” she added.
Sánchez thanked the expressions of affection received in recent days since he announced that he was canceling his public agenda, especially that of the PSOE, which “has decisively influenced” his decision, as he stated.
He also considers that there is only one way to reverse this situation, that “the social majority mobilizes in a determined commitment to dignity and common sense, putting a stop to the politics of shame that we have been suffering for too long.”

In his letter to the citizensSánchez denounced a campaign of harassment and demolition against him and his wife Begoña Gómezafter a judge opened proceedings after receiving a complaint against his wife for alleged influence peddling and corruption in business.
Furthermore, he considered that it was part of the same strategy as the information about his wife published in a “constellation of ultra-conservative newspapers” as he defined them.
This Monday he said that “confuse freedom of expression with freedom of defamation It is a democratic perversion with disastrous consequences” and considers that the “discredit” campaign against him and his wife will not stop because they have been suffering from it for 10 years. “It is serious, but it is not the most relevant thing, we can handle it,” he stated.
In the text Sánchez also stated that he needed to reflect on whether it was worth continuing at the head of the Executive and now points out that Spanish society must decide “what type of society” it wants to be and therefore needs to make a “collective reflection.”

“We have been letting the mud colonize political life and public life with impunity for too long, contaminating us with toxic practices unimaginable just a few years ago. I appeal, consequently, to the collective conscience of Spanish society,” he indicated below.
He also denounced “harassment”, “hatred exercises” and “gross lies” towards him and his family and has issued a warning. “Either we say enough is enough or this degradation of public life will determine our future, condemning us as a country,” she says.
