Minister Dias Toffoli, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), ordered the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to investigate the activities of the NGO Transparency International in Brazil. In the decision, handed down this Monday, 5th, Toffoli states that the measure is necessary to investigate possible appropriation of public resources by the organization, which was responsible for managing the application of R$ 2.3 billion in social investments provided for in the agreement of leniency by J&F in the context of Lava Jato.

Toffoli points out that the NGO’s collaboration did not pass the scrutiny of the Judiciary and the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU). “According to the clauses of the agreement, instead of the allocation of resources, strictly speaking from the National Treasury, being guided by legal and budgetary norms, it was intended for a private institution, even more alien and based in Berlin”, stated the minister .

The action was initially presented to the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) by a deputy, whose name is confidential. Minister Humberto Martins, from the STJ, decided to send the case directly to Toffoli, rapporteur of processes at the STF that investigate irregularities in Lava Jato and the task force’s legal cooperation with international organizations.
