Traffic on the Dartford Crossing has been stopped due to a police-led incident.
Two lanes are closed on the clockwise carriageway of the M25 from junction 31 for Lakeside to junction 1A for Dartford.
The QEII bridge was closed at around 9am and traffic was stopped from heading into the county.
There are delays of around an hour on the approach with congestion back to junction 29 for Romford.
An Essex Police spokesman said: The QEII Bridge has been closed following a serious incident which was reported to us at 9am this morning.
“We were called to concerns for the welfare of a man. All emergency services are at the scene.
“At this stage, the bridge has been closed whilst the incident is being dealt with.
“We will provide an update as soon as we practically can.”
