Two new primary candidates confirmed for CU Board of Regents – Boulder Daily Camera

The Colorado Democratic Party has announced Elliott Hood and Charles “CJ” Johnson as confirmed primary candidates for the University Colorado Board of Regents. The board’s duties include generally overseeing the university and managing the school’s funds and appropriations.

The board is charged constitutionally with the general supervision of the university and the exclusive control and direction of all funds of and appropriations to the university, unless otherwise provided by law.

At Saturday’s Colorado Democratic Party State Assembly, Hood received 56% of delegate votes and Johnson received 44%, earning both of them a spot on the June primary ballot, according to a news release.

“As a CU alum — Go Buffs! — I couldn’t be more impressed by the quality of our candidates and I’m so proud of the positive campaigns they have run,” Colorado Democratic Party chair Shad Murib said in the release. “Students deserve affordable access to a great education from one of the best and most beautiful colleges Colorado has to offer. CJ and Elliott will both ensure that CU is well-governed, inclusive, and a shining example of how to prepare college graduates for a great career and life while leading the nation in important research.”

Candidates for the 2nd Congressional District of the U.S. House of Representatives and the State Board of Education for the same district were confirmed at another Democratic party assembly Thursday night. Kathy Gebhardt was designated to the ballot as a State Board of Education candidate. Marisol Rodriguez is also running for that seat, but withdrew from the assembly process. The Secretary of State website does not show her having sufficient signatures to petition onto the ballot.

Democratic Rep. Joe Neguse secured enough delegate votes to run for reelection, but he was also included on an earlier list of confirmed candidates because he had already garnered enough signatures to petition onto the ballot by late February.

The Daily Camera is keeping a running list of primary candidates in each race. The following candidates have been confirmed for this year’s primary ballot via petition, assembly, or both.
