Rio – With four consecutive defeats in the Brazilian Championship, Vasco is close to reaching its worst record in the 2023 edition. Last year, Cruz-Maltino had a better start to the competition than in the current season, however, even in the first round, they scored a streak of six consecutive defeats.
On that occasion, the Rio club started its negative streak in the sixth round by losing to Santos, in São Januário. After this game, Vasco was defeated by São Paulo, in Morumbi, by Fortaleza, in Castelão, by Flamengo, in Maracanã, by Internacional, in Porto Alegre, and by Goiás, in São Januário. Cruz-Maltino only won again in the 12th round, against Cuiabá, in Rio.
In 2024, Vasco debuted by beating Grêmio, but subsequently suffered four defeats in a row: Bragantino, Fluminense, Criciúma and Athletico-PR. Cruz-Maltino will face Vitória, next weekend, in Rio, and later Flamengo in a classic at Maracanã.
Another negative sequence that Vasco is currently experiencing is its goal drought. In the last three games of the season, including the draw against Fortaleza, in the Copa do Brasil, Cruz-Maltino did not find the net in any opportunity.
