Rio – Former Flamengo midfielder, Thiago Maia rescued an elderly woman who was stranded due to the floods in Rio Grande do Sul. The Internacional player shared a video on his social networks this Thursday (9) recording the moment, which shows the woman leaving her house leaning on the athlete’s back.

“The last few days have not been easy here in Rio Grande do Sul. As everyone knows, unfortunately we are living through one of the worst moments in the state’s history. But thank God we are counting on a lot of support and solidarity to help those in need at this time”, wrote Thiago in the caption.

Since the beginning of the tragedy, the steering wheel has been working directly to rescue people in Porto Alegre and has no intention of stopping.

“I sympathize and ask God for strength to continue helping these people in some way. Keep helping and sending positive prayers to everyone. I’m sure this will all be over soon,” he said.

According to Civil Defense, The floods that hit Rio Grande do Sul have already left 107 people dead and at least 136 people missing. More than 160 thousand people from Rio Grande do Sul were left homeless.
