THE severe bad weather traveled an axis going from Burgundy to Normandy on Wednesday evening and overnight. They caused at least one victim in Courmelles, in Aisne, due to a mudslide.
This Thursday morning, Météo France has however lifted the orange vigilance (level 3 of 4) triggered on Wednesday. “The storms evacuated into the Channel, towards England”. The remaining rains “no longer justify orange vigilance”.
A risk of thunderstorms nevertheless remains in the north-east of the country and in Corsica. The meteorological organization therefore maintains a yellow vigilance (level 2 out of 4) in 16 departments.
Other regions could also be affected, but again at much lower levels than what France experienced yesterday. Keraunosthe French observatory for tornadoes and violent storms, explains that the Pyrenees and their surroundings could be affected.
Rainy weekend ahead
Furthermore, rain continues to fall in many regions this Thursday. They concern, among others, Burgundy, affected by Wednesday’s storms.
Vigicrues, the organization responsible for monitoring the level of rivers, places several of them in the north, center and south of the country on yellow alert. But he don’t show concern. The accumulations “will generate low to moderate increases in levels on many rivers,” he believes.
Friday and Saturday, the risk of thunderstorms will remain low. Showers are expected to continue across most of the country over the weekend.
