Round Round – The City of Volta Redonda, through the Municipal Health Department (SMS), participated in the 4th State Exhibition of Health Practices, held by the Council of Municipal Health Departments of the State of Rio de Janeiro and the Collaborative Platform IdeiaSUS Fiocruz.

This edition received 106 entries, 23 experiences from the Unified Health System (SUS) in the state of Rio de Janeiro were selected, which were presented and evaluated by an in-person and a remote panel. The practices were presented at an in-person event at the Escola Politécnica de Saúde Joaquim Venâncio (EPSJV/Fiocruz), located on the Fiocruz headquarters campus, in Manguinhos, Rio de Janeiro.

Volta Redonda presented the work “But I can’t do it doctor: Dialogic groups for Primary Health Care, together we can”. The work tells the story of health education groups focused on cardiovascular strategy that have taken place monthly, since June 2022, at the Basic Family Health Unit (UBSF) in the Volta Grande neighborhood. The focus of the groups is patients focused on the Cardiovascular Strategy (hypertensive and diabetic patients).

Authored by doctors Luísa de Carvalho Fiedler, Elisangela Lira Bonifácio and Sílvia Mello dos Santos, the work allowed the team to achieve surprising results with a reduction in patients’ blood pressure and blood glucose levels.

During the 4th State Exhibition of Health Practices Cosems RJ and IdeiaSUS Fiocruz, the e-book “Health Knowledge and Practices in the Territory: the partnership between Cosems RJ and IdeiaSUS Fiocruz in Rio de Janeiro” was launched, with the work awarded in 2022 from the municipality of Volta Redonda: “Online community therapy in Volta Redonda: from implementation to results in a year of project”, written by SMS family and community doctor, Silvia Mello dos Santos, implemented in March 2021.

The project was evaluated as a low-cost, high-impact initiative. Group sessions, lasting approximately one hour, take place weekly in three shifts during the week, reaching up to 300 people weekly.

“The best thing about this project is that the person does not need to identify themselves to participate, and can keep the camera closed or open. It is a democratic space to talk about what bothers you and what can turn into illness. The project is expected to expand this year, due to its relevance in promoting mental health and the need for comprehensive care for people”, explained doctor Silvia Mello dos Santos.
