‘We are excited about the possibility of pacifying exemptions this week’, says Haddad | Economy

The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, said he was excited about the possibility of “pacifying” the negotiation on the payroll tax exemption this week. According to him, it is not the Treasury’s idea to “defeat anyone” in the Federal Supreme Court (STF) – which temporarily suspended the benefit, at the request of the government, with the decision of minister Cristiano Zanin. “The sectors were also aware of the fact that we are seeking. We do not want to defeat anyone in the STF, but seek understanding, because it is the country that is at stake and there was awareness around this, and we are excited about the possibility of this week pacify this issue,” Haddad told reporters.

The minister stated that he has a plan to meet the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), this week to “round off once and for all” the agreement on the topic. “I have already spoken to Minister Alexandre Padilha to check the time this week for us to meet. And like everything that was done by the Treasury, from last year until today, everything was negotiated, agreed, we reached a good conclusion of everything for the good of health financial situation of the country”, said Haddad, arguing that this effort is necessary for the country to continue advancing in credit ratings, economic indicators, job creation and inflation control.

“We are very sure that the best method is negotiation”, added the minister. As Estadão/Broadcast showed earlier, the Ministry of Finance plays with the calendar to reach an agreement with the 17 sectors that benefit from the payroll tax relief. As the benefit was suspended by injunction, companies must return to collect the employer contribution at the full rate on the 20th, the date of payment. In other words, the deadline is short, which gives the government an advantage at this new negotiating table.

Companies and parliamentarians are pressing for the Federal Revenue to institute a ninety-day period (a period of ninety days) for the re-encumbrance of the payroll.
