The increase in energy demand by the heat wave stresses the National Electric Systemwhat has caused blackouts for two consecutive days in Mexico.
Faced with this problem, Jorge Islas Samperio, Claudia Sheinbaum’s campaign energy coordinatorrevealed what the priorities should be for the next six-year term to avoid these problems.

“With the issue of global warming and increasing temperatures that are being experienced in Mexico, we are seeing unusual energy demand peaks that go beyond demand forecasts,” he assessed.
What are Sheinbaum’s proposals to avoid blackouts in Mexico?
In order to face this problem, the energy coordinator of the Sheinbaum campaign pointed out that it is necessary have larger reserve margins.
“One of the biggest problems we have is that, apparently, we have a lot of electricity supply, but we have power plants that are very oldand when events like yesterday arise, we can’t trust themso we are clear that we must renew the electricity supply we have,” he indicated.
Furthermore, Islas pointed out that in Mexico there is still no a developed market for related serviceswhich are those that are linked to the operation of the National Electric System and that are necessary to guarantee its quality, reliability, continuity and safety.
“It is a market that is greatly needed to alleviate intermittency problems,” he suggested.
Samperio Islands clarified that Claudia Sheinbaum is aware that it is an issue in which solutions must be delved into, so it would be one of its priorities to have effective and adequate reserve margins.
“We have to act, since when the perfect storm is generated, they can generate things, they are already giving us warnings (with these blackouts),” he noted.
Regarding returning energy auctions to have a greater supply of renewable energy, Islas Samperio indicated that they are still analyzing the issue.
Mexico’s Electrical System, in trouble
