x, the social network owned by Elon Musk formerly known as Twitter, will begin summarizing news within the application using xAI’s chatbot, Grok.
AI-generated summaries will be based on user tweetsnot in third-party news articles, and only will be available for premium subscribersthe company announced this Friday, May 3.
The function called stories He doesn’t currently cite any media outlets, but Musk told tech newsletter Big Technology that better sources are on the way.
“As more information becomes available, the news summary will be updated to include that information,” Musk told Big Technology, which previously reported on the article.
Grok, the AI chatbot, is not technically owned by X, but is part of xAI, an artificial intelligence startup that is another of Musk’s companies. He has spoken openly about the fact that Grok is training using X posts.
X, formerly known as Twitter, used to have a similar product called Moments that relied on human moderators to create news summaries. That product was shut down shortly after Musk took over in late 2022.

Elon Musk acknowledged in April that Tesla, his electric car company, is having difficulty retaining AI specialists, some of whom left the automaker last year to join his AI company.
