The US State Department published a report that provoked (again) the anger of the President Andrés Manuel López Obrador who stated that US officials insist on believing themselves to be “the judges of the world.”
“Hopefully that will change because it doesn’t help them, They are becoming stagnant in the management of their foreign policy…with all due respect,” he declared in the ‘morning’ conference on April 23.
López Obrador did not stop there and threw several ‘stones’ at the US Government by criticizing it for the money it allocates to support Ukraine and Israel; the process they have against Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, and the “harassment” against Donald Trumpvirtual rival of Joe Biden in next November’s elections.
“They should be respectful to us. We don’t tell them: Why don’t you take care of the young people in the United States who die from drug addiction, from fentanyl? “Why do you repress and mistreat migrants?” she lashed out.
State Department criticizes AMLO for his attacks on the Supreme Court
At one of the points of the Annual Human Rights Reportthe State Department expressed its concern about the attacks against the Judiciary, many of which come from the Treasury Room of the National Palace.
“We began to cleanse the Government of corruption, which is our responsibility (…), but the great corruption of the Judiciary It remains because it is an independent power and we are not authoritarian,” he declared regarding the request for political trial against Norma Piñapresiding judge of the Court.
The State Department highlighted that “President López Obrador and other government actors They verbally attacked the Judiciary, especially the Supreme Court, criticizing the judges who ruled against the administration on numerous occasions“, he pointed.
The agency headed by Antony Blinken pressed the ‘alarm button’ by emphasizing that López Obrador’s attacks “permeated” towards citizens who have made hostile demonstrations against the Supreme Court ministers.
“In March (2023)during a large demonstration in Mexico City, government supporters they burned an effigy of the president of the Court, Norma Piña, accusing her of corruption,” he noted.
‘It’s a big lie’: AMLO responds to the US
President López Obrador stressed that his Government is governed by morality and honesty and flatly denied that his administration has promoted a campaign against Minister Norma Piña.
“We have nothing to do with that, it is a big lie from the State Department (…) we don’t do anything, we act with moral scruples and we care a lot about honesty,” he declared.
López Obrador denounced the “hypocrisy” of both the State Department as well as civil society organizations that, he said, have not commented on the social media campaign that promotes the hashtag #narcopresident against him.
“That is the doctrine of the right, hypocrisy, seeing the speck in another’s eye and not the beam in your own. So, the debate is good,” he said.
