Woman thwarts attempted sex assault by biting man's finger on Near West Side

CHICAGO — Chicago police have issued a community alert after an attempted sexual assault on the city’s Near West Side.

On April 14, a 35-year-old woman was walking northbound on Carpenter Street from Randolph Street in the Fulton Market neighborhood, when she was approached from behind by the man, according to police.

The suspect grabbed the woman by the waist and put his hands over her mouth. The man then dragged the woman to an alley and she was able to bite his index finger, causing him to throw her to the ground.

Police said the suspect ran southbound on Carpenter Street and eastbound on Randolph Street.

The victim described her attacker as male, approximately 30-35 years old with short hair and wearing a white and green windbreaker.
