On 05/08, the Festival opens with the award-winning “Three Summers”, by Sandra Kogut, starring the actress Regina Casé, one of the honorees of this 1st edition. The actress will be present at the opening session to receive the Zeca Pagodinho Trophy. On May 10th, it is the turn of filmmaker Hsu Chien, also honored at the event, to receive the trophy, followed by the screening of his feature film “Desapega”, with Glória Pires, Maísa, Marcos Pasquim and a large cast.
For the Festival director, Sergio Assis, the event aims to democratize and disseminate audiovisual production, with a special focus on Baixada Fluminense and in the territory of Duque de Caxias and Xerém”.
The 1st Xerém Film Festival features more than 40 films in its program. Of this total, 27 are short films from seven Brazilian states (RJ, PR, SP, DF, BA, PE and ES), 12 of which are directed by women. The short films in competition compete for the Zeca Pagodinho Trophy, created by the self-taught artist from Paraíba Bejamim Carlos dos Santos, and the Edina Fuji Prize.
The program is divided into National Competitive Short Films, with five films that cover different themes; Cinema Leva Eu Exhibition, made up of ten short films produced by students trained at the Escola Brasileira de Audiovisual (EBAV); Mostra Fluminense and Baixada de Curtas, with four titles made by directors from Baixada Fluminense; and the Special Exhibition of Short Film Critics, with a collection of eight works that draw attention to social, cultural and personal themes.
The Festival will also promote a series of training activities such as the workshop “The Magical Power of Cinema”, with actor and producer Marcello Gonçalves; and the masterclasses “New Forms of Production and Distribution through Collaborative Networks”, with director Cavi Borges; “What makes a Filmmaker Differentiated and the Insertion of AI in the audiovisual market”, with filmmaker Vlad Aguiar; and “A Baixada in the center of the scene!”, with actor Leandro Santanna. Daily debates with directors and guests, mediated by film critic, playwright and screenwriter Rodrigo Fonseca, complete the program. For children, the event features the Cinema Showcase, with films such as “Secret Passage”, by Rodrigo Grota; “Placa Mãe”, by Igor Bastos; “Pluft, the Little Ghost”, by Rosane Svartman, and “Chef Jack, the adventurous cook”, by Guilherme Fiuza Zenha.
With the general direction of Sergio Assis, executive direction of Emerson Rodrigues and programming direction of Mónica Trigo, the Xerém Film Festival is organized by EBAV (Escola Brasileira de Audiovisual), in partnership with the Zeca Pagodinho Institute, and supported by Naymovie, Rádio Serra Verde 98.7 FM and Telecine.
The Festival also has cultural support from the Municipal Departments of Culture and Tourism (SMCT), Communication (SECOM) and Education (SME), from the City of Duque de Caxias.
