Your place – El Financiero

On Monday I presented you with a tight summary of the destruction of the federal government’s management capacity. I did not mention there that this impact, via budget, also affected federal entities and municipalities, who have had resources reduced for education, health and security. However, it is important to remember that, in Mexico, the president is not only the head of government (who should be responsible for all of the above), but also head of state, and that must also be reviewed.

During the period in which we were able to build a modern democracy in Mexico, part of the functions that the government controlled were assigned to autonomous bodies. The objective was to more clearly separate the two areas (government and State), allowing in the second case the existence of counterweights that, within the government, do not always exist.

The federal powers, Legislative and Judicial, began to have autonomy in the nineties, and shortly afterwards the Bank of Mexico, the Electoral Institute, the Human Rights Commission, the Institute of Access to Information and economic bodies did so: INEGI, Ifetel, Cofece.

In this six-year term, Morena has had a large majority in the Legislative Branch, but that should not be a problem. Her stupidity, impudence and abjection is what changes the panorama. They have been able to strain legislative procedures, or flatly ignore them, to pass laws that are clearly unconstitutional, that may have catastrophic consequences, or that are aimed at fulfilling presidential whims, not at facilitating the functioning of society. Incapable, shameless and debased legislators have allowed the concentration of power in a single person, the militarization of public life and the attack on those who have tried to stop them, specifically the Judiciary.

López Obrador destroyed the CNDH from the beginning of the six-year term, appointing a person with the credentials that make legislators stand out, but to an extreme degree. He has pressured and colonized the National Electoral Institute, avoided appointing missing positions in the Inai, Ifetel or Cofetel, and even in the Electoral Tribunal.

The balance within the State is broken, because that is what López Obrador has sought. Although he has appointed deputy governors of the Bank of Mexico, he cannot attack that institution due to the international financial risk. At INEGI he also appointed president, and there I do perceive a deterioration, especially promoted by the government that falsifies information that the institute cannot correct. With a government that lies more than a hundred times a day, any risk that INEGI runs should worry us.

We will arrive at the election with the INE fractured and with the Electoral Tribunal incomplete. A close election would become a major problem. Control of public discourse, in circumstances where the referee is not in top form, becomes the most important element. Therefore, as it becomes clearer that the election has closed, López Obrador intensifies his attack on the media, opinion leaders, social organizations, activists, against anyone.

Literally, López Obrador has destroyed the institutional framework and the capabilities of the State with the sole objective of perpetuating himself in power. He requires a lot of ignorance, fanaticism or interest not to see him. To continue praising his imaginary political capacity, his non-existent principles, his fictitious interest in the poorest (or in whoever is not him), is to join the destruction of democracy, that is, of the Republic. . I feel very sorry for those who do it.

I believe, however, that he did not have time to achieve his objective. I think he gained many more enemies than followers, that he created many more problems, that he opened too many fronts. I believe that reality is catching up with us, and it should be demonstrated in the demonstration on May 19 and in the election on June 2.

He will go down in history, yes, but not in the paradise of national heroes.
