Russia strategically took advantage of the long period of arduous negotiations in the United States Congress on military aid to Kiev, recognized this Friday (26) the President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky.
“While we were awaiting a decision on American support, the Russian Army managed to seize the initiative on the battlefield,” Zelensky said at the opening of a videoconference meeting with dozens of Ukraine’s international supporters.
“Now, we can not only stabilize the front, but also move forward, achieving our objectives in the war,” he said.
American President Joe Biden enacted a law on Wednesday, approved after six months of debates, which provides military and economic aid of 61 billion dollars for Kiev.
Biden promised in the first immediate delivery of military equipment. On Thursday (25), an American military commander reduced Zelensky’s optimism.
The aid unlocked by the United States and other countries “will allow the Ukrainians to begin to regain the initiative,” he said, “but it will not be a quick process.”
