President Andrés Manuel López Obrador inaugurated the first phase of Mexico-Toluca Interurban Trainanother of the works of his six-year term that have been launched… without having been completed.
‘The Insurgent’as the railway project has been named, adds to the Dos Bocas refinery and the Santa Lucía airport, projects that were inaugurated without having been completed and whose first stages were part of the inaugurations presided over by López Obrador.
This September 15, President López Obrador indicated that railway and civil works of the Mexico-Toluca Train will be delivered in March of the following year.
The first stage of the ‘El Insurgente’ train will go from Zinacantepec station to Lermain the State of Mexico, and the cost of a ticket for that section will be 15 pesos.
When will the second phase of the ‘El Insurgente’ Train be ready?

The rest of the work, that is, the connection with Observatoryin Mexico Citywould have to be ready at the end of this year so that the train is fully available in the first quarter of 2024.
In this first stage only 20 of the 58 kilometers will work which includes the railway work, which has had significant cost overruns, going from requiring an investment of 30 billion pesos to around 96 billion pesosthese according to the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT).
In this first stage, the open stations will be: Zinacantepec, Toluca Centro, Metepec and Lerma, which will operate from 6:00 in the morning to 11:00 at night.
During September, entry to the train will be free and, starting in October, the cost will be 15 pesos.
