Cost of theft from cargo transportation in NL rises 27% – El Financiero

During last year, the cost of cargo transportation theft for Nuevo León companies amounted to 14,000 million pesos (mp), an increase of 25 percent compared to the amount recorded in 2022, said Máximo Vedoya.

“We reviewed our annual survey and the results of the effects on cargo transportation that the industry of Nuevo León has throughout the country, which is what the companies of Nuevo León suffer throughout the national territory, in total the losses reported by the companies were 14,000 million pesos, this is an increase of 27 percent over 2022,” said the president of Caintra.

“There are 3 items that we measure, the first is the theft of freight motor transportation, that decreased between 2023 and 2022, it went from 5,800 million pesos to 4,772 million pesos currently, however, the railway sector increased by 58 percent. cent, going from 700 million pesos to almost 1,200 million pesos,” he noted.

He said that the third item they measure are the associated costs that companies have for the security required for motor transportation, which also increased significantly, since what companies spend on security issues more than doubled, going from four thousand 399 million pesos to eight thousand 148 million pesos, that gives a total of 14,000 million pesos.

“Now what are we going to do with this?” “We reiterate our willingness to fully coordinate with the authorities, as well as ask them to work on the following points: the first is to reinforce the presence of the National Guard and state police on roads throughout the country,” he commented.

Another aspect will be investing in infrastructure at safe stops, since this is very important because many of the transporters are robbed while they stop.

Likewise, it is necessary to invest in road technology to monitor and warn of possible thefts, generate strategies to contain and reduce thefts in the most conflictive points of the country.

“We know which roads or which states are where this incidence is highest, so how do we create a strategy to focus on those places and expedite and facilitate the reporting of theft in cargo transportation so that there are greater penalties,” he said.

He said that the above is very important because many times they are reported, but these complaints are not expedited or are not very agile as they are followed and this is being presented to the local and federal authorities of each of the states, as well as the business leaders. .

“We are also working with the Chamber of Transportation to jointly see how with the authorities of the different states and at the federal level we follow this plan,” he noted.

He highlighted that in the cargo transportation security plan, the security of communication routes in Mexico must be a priority for the current and the next federal administration and they reiterated that they are willing to work together and focus on where they live. these higher incidences.
