Criminals involved in territorial disputes in the North Zone are targets of PM operations | Rio de Janeiro

Rio – Morro do Urubu, in Pilares, in the North Zone, is the target of a Military Police operation, this Wednesday morning (24). According to the PM, the action aims to combat vehicle theft in the region and arrest criminals involved in territorial disputes.

According to the corporation, police officers from the 3rd BPM (Méier) occupy the main roads in the communities and are supported by armored vehicles. Still according to the PM, so far, there are no records of arrests or seizures.

Through social media, community residents reported intense shooting in recent days. According to them, drug traffickers from the Third Pure Command (TCP) who operate in Complexo da Serrinha, in Madureira, were trying to invade Morro do Urubu, currently dominated by Comando Vermelho (CV). “Lots of shooting, really a lot. It sounds like war. Lots of different calibers. But it’s not just in Urubu, there’s the sound of shots from further away,” wrote one.

According to the Onde Tem Tiroteio (OTT) platform, the shots were heard in the early hours of the morning, around 4am, near Rua Luís Vargas. Also according to OTT, last Sunday (21), shootings were recorded at 6pm and 11pm.

The region is the scene of territorial disputes between rival factions. Criminals aim to expand drug sales outlets in the area. Fear is constant among residents, who call for more security amid the escalation of violence.
