Cuauhtémoc ship starts mission with more than 50 women for the first time – El Financiero

He training ship Cuauhtémoc set sail for 13 ports in 10 countries, to give a message of peace and raise Mexico’s sails with a participation of 53 womenwhich makes her the crew with the most women on record.

Minutes after 11 a.m. on May 6, the guests gathered at the dock of the 12 Naval Region to fire 261 crew memberswho will sail on a new voyage with the ship.

The captain, Víctor Hugo Moreno Pérez, said that there will be 222 days of navigation through 13 ports, during his message at the farewell ceremony.

There are six captains on board the ship; 42 officers; 96 cadets; 113 class and sailor people; as well as two guest officers from the merchant nautical school; and two guest officers from the armed forces of Guatemala and the Dominican Republic.

Molina Pérez highlighted that this new generation will visit three continents, of which, 28 percent of the trip will stay in the 13 ports, while the remaining 72 percent will be at sea.

“This instructional cruise, I assure you, will be full of experiences, in which you will have successes, sighs and also setbacks that will leave you with great learning that the classrooms cannot transmit because only It is acquired through the experience lived in the sea schoolin its harshest expression,” he said.


Cadet María Fernanda Gutiérrez commented in her speech that the sun will be her guide, while the sea will be the witness of new adventures and horizons.

“We will give every last effort to represent Mexico with great pride on different continents of the world, from the moment we decided to undertake this navigation we committed ourselves with courage and dedication to face various challenges that strengthen our bodies, mind and spirit,” he explained.

He added that this trip will allow them to reaffirm their skills and competencies, to undergo a different environment to test their tolerance, strength, emotional control, resilience and seafaring spirit.

The commander of the 12th Naval Region, Admiral José Manuel Salinas Pérez recalled that for more than 40 years, the knight of the seas has carried Mexico’s message of peace and goodwill to the world and indicated that in the coming months, the Crew members will be trained and qualified in navigation, as well as in the perfection of sailing arts.
