Citing the Madonna show in Rio de Janeiro, which took place last Saturday, 4th, federal deputy Pastor Sargento Isidório (Avante-BA) presented, in a plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies held this Wednesday, 8th, a bill that prohibits the simulation of sexual acts in public events. According to the parliamentarian, “Ms. Madonna” surprised everyone by arriving “on her platform (and simulating) sexual practices, masturbation, stimulated anal sex, all kinds of ‘twisting’ and dogging.”

With the Bible in hand, the deputy stated that it is not possible to protect children and adolescents from eroticization as long as the country continues “allowing these acts of nudity and explicit sex as if the people of this nation were all involved in brothels.” When defending the proposal that establishes “measures to prevent undue exposure to sexually explicit content in inappropriate environments”, the deputy claims that the text aims to make the Brazilian population respected.

Author of the text, the parliamentarian is known for calling himself “ex-gay” and stating that homosexuality is a sin as serious as murder. In the proposal, he justifies that preventing the staging of sexual acts, whether heterosexual or homosexual, in any public space, such as streets, squares and shows, aims to “promote respect for moral values and human dignity, as well as protecting the integrity physical and psychological of citizens”. The bill, filed this Wednesday, is at the Board of Directors of the Chamber.

In addition, the text also holds artists and event producers responsible for any infractions and imposes civil and criminal sanctions on transgressors, including fines, which must take into account “the seriousness of the infraction, recurrence, as well as the negative impact caused to society”, and prison sentences. The proposal authorizes the arrest in the act of those who sponsor or practice nudity and libidinous acts in prohibited places.

According to the parliamentarian, exposure to “sexually explicit content” causes harm to the psychological and mental development of young people, which “can negatively influence the formation of their sexual identity and the establishment of healthy relationships in the future”. Isidório also says that such acts contribute to the “naturalization of sexual violence and the perpetuation of gender stereotypes.”

The deputy, who claims to have been “cured” of homosexuality through the Bible, says that it is the State’s duty to guarantee “good customs” and act in “consonance with the values and expectations of the majority of the population” which, according to him, “repudiates vehemently public or publicly accessible exposure of explicit sexual practices.”

Last year, Isidório was applauded by LGBTQIA+ activists after speaking against a project that prohibits same-sex marriage. The statement came two days after the congressman became the target of an investigation request from the Public Electoral Ministry for the crime of gender-based political violence against congresswoman Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP), whom he called “my friend”.
