Rio – Highly praised during the season, Flamengo’s defensive system has been experiencing fluctuations in recent games. In the four previous matches, Rubro-Negro conceded twice the number of goals they had conceded in the other 17 games they played in 2024.

Until the Libertadores debut against Millonarios, Flamengo had only conceded one goal in the year and with its reserve team in the 1-1 draw with Nova Iguaçu. With the draw in Colombia, Rubro-Negro was leaked for the first time with the starters and later won Carioca against the club from Baixada Fluminense and defeated Palestino again without being leaked.

Until the Brazilian’s debut against Atlético-GO, the Rio club had played 17 games and conceded only two goals. However, from that match onwards, the Rio team began to experience defensive fluctuations. They started by beating Dragão, but conceded a goal. In the next game, they defeated São Paulo, but were leaked again. They drew goalless with Palmeiras and lost 2-1 to Bolívar.

In total, there were four goals conceded in the last four games, three of which came from aerial play, showing a specific problem that needs to be corrected by Flamengo’s defensive system. This Sunday, Rubro-Negro returns to the field for the Brazilian Championship against Botafogo, at Maracanã.
