Crews arrived at about 9.15pm and left an hour later after using a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

A fire service spokesperson said: “No injuries have been reported and the cause is not yet known.”

The fire meant trains from London to Gravesend could not run throughout the evening.

Passengers were told to use their tickets at no extra cost on Fastrack buses between Gravesend and Ebbsfleet International.

Just before 10am it was announced trains were unable to run in both directions between Gravesend and Strood.

A replacement bus service was put in place from Dartford to Gillingham.
