The Public Security Committee of the Chamber of Deputies approved, this Friday, the 23rd, two requests that invite the businessman who owns the social network X (formerly Twitter) and Tesla, Elon Musk, to appear at the House. With the approval of the invitations, it remains to be seen whether Musk will participate in the public hearings.

The first request establishes that the billionaire appear before the Chamber, as a matter of urgency, so that clarifications can be provided on a complaint published in the press of alleged abuses of authority committed by Brazilian public agents against X Corp., the businessman’s company. According to the text, from O Dia, written by deputy Ubiratan Sanderson (PL-RS), the practices narrated by the businessman, in theory, constitute the crime of disciplined abuse of authority.

“The Commission for Public Security and Combating Organized Crime is responsible for receiving, evaluating and investigating complaints that affect public security. Furthermore, CSPCCO is also responsible for collaborating with non-governmental entities, which includes the X network ( Twitter),” he says.

The request from Deputy Delegate Fabio Costa (PP-AL) invites Musk and Michael Shellenberger, American activist and journalist, to discuss the “Twitter Files Brazil” and possible illegal actions by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) on the social network.

In the request, the deputy argues that the situation is “serious”, stating that “members of the platform warned about threats of heavy fines from the TSE, if their demands were not met.

“Such actions, if proven, represent a flagrant violation of constitutional rights and the principles of the Democratic Rule of Law.”

“A public hearing is imperative to promote an open and transparent discussion of these issues, allowing the participation of experts, TSE representatives, parliamentarians, members of the Public Ministry and others involved.”

In early April, X Corp. stated that she was “forced” by court decisions to block accounts in Brazil. Since then, Musk has accused the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Alexandre de Morais, of promoting censorship in Brazil. In response, the minister included the billionaire as being investigated in the digital militias investigation for “intentional exploitation” of the social network.
