The enthusiasm for the use of artificial intelligence continues to grow every day. There is never a moment when you don’t read or hear some news about a new, different AI product or service that promises that now by using it you will dominate your market and your competitors will have no idea how you did it.
Whether it’s called generative AI, expert AI, robotic AI, or machine learning among others, artificial intelligence has come to change our lives. It comes in all brands, flavors and colors. There are subscriptions, mainly, but there is also free code and closed or open platforms so you can choose what suits you best. And so you face the first dilemma of this long path: What AI do I need? Which AI is best for me?
Imagine that your name is Pepe and you are the commercial director of a transnational corporation that is dedicated to the production and marketing of household items. At the last earnings meeting two weeks ago, your CEO kindly suggested that you look for an artificial intelligence tool to now eliminate the competition and conquer more of the market. The problem is that Pepe has spent his entire very successful career in analog mode and outside of using CRM systems to manage his prospects, clients, leads, sales and analytics, is not someone who has much experience in the technological world and also does not think he needs it. But the most convincing argument from his boss was: “We have to use AI before the competition starts using it and beats us to it.” market share”. And deep down, the boss is right. But the big dilemma is not to start using it but to have the skills or skills necessary to begin this journey. Not all of us have those skills. But I don’t mean knowing how to use prompts. What are those skills? Curiosity first. You must be a curious person to start this long journey. It will be hours of searching, trial and error before you manage to find something that works for you. And once you achieve something you should be curious enough to continue looking for options and combinations. Another important skill will be patience, if you are not patient you will get desperate very quickly and leave that task to someone else. Surely that someone does not have your field experience or your experiences, which will affect the quality of what you obtain. Another necessary soft skill will be teamwork, because once you -finally- find a viable alternative or decide on an option suggested by the AI, you will need a work team to implement it. Coordinating and communicating to team members, as well as influencing them to achieve defined objectives will again be another skills that you will have to use to successfully implement what you have proposed. So, just as Pepe had to face this challenge of upskilling or development of soft skills in the use of technology, I invite you to evaluate how you are in the most important ones so that you can begin to work on them at the same time as you navigate your transition of the digital transformation of your company or business.
AIs are not coming to replace us, they are coming to help us. That’s why we say that AI needs humans to help it develop and grow. Looking for humans with better soft skills… Technology needs them!
