The Japeri Zero Line of Elective Surgeries Program took another step to end the anguish of those waiting to undergo exams and procedures. This time, Japeri City Hall, through the Municipal Health Department (Semus), will eliminate the wait for the colonoscopy exam. The initiative began on Thursday (09/05).

Contact with patients will be made through telephone calls and active searches at some addresses already registered, through community health agents in the territories. According to the coordinator of the Municipal Regulation Complex, Letícia Motta, the system has 402 patients waiting for the exam. “This wait comes to an end with our contact for scheduling. That’s why it’s important that patients have their phone numbers up to date and pay attention to our calls. Now we just have to answer our call”, reported the professional who has a team of around 10 people carrying out everything from patient care to inclusion in the state regulatory system and the phone call to carry out the procedures.

The call order for the procedure is in accordance with the registration of the State Regulation System. The procedures take place in partnership with Hospital Rio Saúde, in Duque de Caxias, which will serve 25 people per week. Patients will be taken by the Semus fleet and must be accompanied by a companion. Discharge will be on the same day.

The colonoscopy exam is performed to investigate changes throughout the large intestine and at the end of the small intestine. It is used to search for polyps, which are lesions on the internal surface of an organ; identify bleeding in the stool, as well as to evaluate persistent diarrhea and other intestinal changes.

With the colonoscopy exam, it is also possible to remove tissue for biopsy and perform procedures such as polypectomy, which is the removal of colorectal polyps, pieces of flesh or tissue that can be benign or malignant in the intestine or rectum.

The exam requires the patient to undergo preparation that begins with a diet free of solid foods the day before the exam. To clean the colon, you need to use a laxative. The procedure is carried out under anesthesia and the patient must be accompanied.
