Rio – Striker Jô, from Amazonas, was arrested this Monday (6), in Campinas, for failing to pay child support. The player with spells at Corinthians, Atlético-MG and Seleção was detained by Baep (Police Special Actions Battalion), upon arrival of the Amazonian club, at Moisés Lucarelli, before the match against Ponte Preta, in the 3rd round of Series B of the Brazilian.

Civil police officers were waiting for the Amazon club bus with a warrant for the attacker. Jô, however, took another vehicle outside the hotel where the team was staying and went to the Campinas police station, according to “ge”. The player was accompanied by two Amazonas directors, who left the place after the lawyer arrived.

Jô, 37 years old, was scheduled to start the match against Ponte Preta. He was replaced by William Barbio. The striker came out of retirement to play for Amazonas at the beginning of this year and has scored five goals in 14 matches.

Amazonas is Flamengo’s opponent in the Copa do Brasil. In the first game, Rubro-Negro won 1-0, at Maracanã, and could even draw in the second duel to advance to the round of 16. The return match takes place on the 22nd, at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), at Arena da Amazônia.
