NBA Unveils Futuristic Glass Court for All-Star Game, and Fans Have Strong Opinions

The NBA unveiled a court design that has never been seen before ahead of the 2024 All-Star Game weekend.

The court will be one giant LED screen, which essentially will mimic a television screen, with the power to change the design and color of the court throughout the game.

In the short video posted by the league on Monday, the court looks like it can change designs and animations to reflect the action on the court. For instance, a line of animated fire could follow a players footsteps.

The contests with planned animations include the skills contest, the three-point contest between Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry and New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu and the slam dunk contest. The All-Star Game itself, however, will remain on a wooden court.

The post explained that the court will also show live replays, real-time game stats and interactive games for fans during timeouts. The NBA All-Star weekend begins Friday, Feb. 16.

Fans were both amazed and wary of what this futuristic court could entail. Many think it will be difficult to concentrate on the players and action on the court with the distractions appearing on the floor. Take a look at some of the social media reaction.
