Niterói City Hall: immunization against flu, every day, at the Municipal Market, Plaza Shopping and other points in the cityLuciana Carneiro/Ascom

Niterói – City Hall opened this Monday (6) an advanced vaccination station against Influenza at Plaza Shopping, in the Center. Immunization is available on the 4th floor, from Monday to Saturday, from 10am to 7pm, and on Sundays from 12pm to 6pm. This is the second point opened by the Municipal Health Department, in addition to the Polyclinics, Basic Units and Family Doctor Modules. Immunization is aimed at everyone from 6 months of age. Another new feature is that the vaccine can be scheduled through the Colab app.

The municipal secretary of Health, Anamaria Schneider, warns of the importance of vaccination and explains that the strategy is an opportunity to reach a greater number of people, increasing the population’s vaccination coverage. “With the opening of another advanced vaccination post, with extended hours and the administration of the vaccine on Saturdays and Sundays, we increase the possibility of people receiving the vaccine and expand the population’s vaccination coverage. Immunization against influenza is essential, as it prevents complications from the disease, which can lead to hospitalizations and even deaths”, highlights Anamaria Schneider.

Dentist Gabriele Dias, who works in a private practice located inside the mall, took the opportunity to get immunized early in the afternoon. “I think it’s great, I’ve already passed the information on to the secretary at the office and to the other dentists. for everyone to come and get vaccinated too. It is very convenient to have a station close to us, especially in a shopping center in the city center. Anyone who comes to the Plaza stops by and gets the vaccine too. This campaign is very important and I don’t want to catch the flu,” she said.

Public servant Fabiana Chianello was one of several people who chose to schedule a time to take the vaccine through Colab. “I found it very practical and efficient, I was able to make an appointment today on my way to work, I entered the app and made the appointment immediately, without any bureaucracy, very quick and easy. Much better to get vaccinated without standing in line,” she said.

The health units continue vaccinating during the week, from 8am to 5pm, as well as at the Municipal Market, in the Center, from Monday to Saturday, from 10am to 7pm. The vaccine is contraindicated for children under six months of age and people with a history of severe anaphylaxis to previous doses.

According to the vice-president of Collective, Outpatient and Family Care, Maria Célia Vasconcellos, the location offers good service conditions to the public. “This measure facilitates people’s access to immunization against influenza, which is essential for protecting the population. The space at Plaza Shopping has an efficient team, adequate space and extended opening hours, which allows for expanded attention in the area of the vaccine”, says Maria Célia. To schedule the vaccine, simply download the Colab app, which is available free of charge on the Play Store (Android) and App Store (iOS), and complete the step-by-step registration process. the option to reschedule the vaccination date and time, if the person is unable to attend on the scheduled day.

About the disease

Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a febrile, acute, generally benign and self-limited viral illness. It is often characterized by an abrupt onset of symptoms, which are predominantly systemic, including fever, chills, tremors, headache, myalgia and anorexia, as well as respiratory symptoms with dry cough, sore throat and runny nose. The infection usually lasts a week with systemic symptoms persisting for a few days, with fever being the most important.

Influenza viruses are easily transmitted by aerosols produced by infected people when they cough or sneeze. There are three types of influenza viruses: A, B and C. Influenza C causes only mild respiratory infections, has no impact on public health and is not related to epidemics. Influenza A and B are responsible for seasonal epidemics, with the influenza A virus being responsible for major pandemics.
