Over 1,000 pounds of meth seized in Chicago

CHICAGO — A shipment containing over 1,000 pounds of meth was seized by U.S. Customs in Chicago, Chicago Public Affairs said.

According to a press release, CBP officers and narcotic detection dogs detained 26 boxes and 1,117 pounds of unknown powders concealed in bags on April 11.

Testing done by CBP Laboratories and Scientific Services identified cocaine and meth were found in the powder bags.

Officers say the shipment arrived from Shenzhen, China and was heading to Wood Dale, IL.

“Transnational criminals exploit dependencies and addictions to sell their illicit goods. Our officers are trained to identify shipments that contain these potentially dangerous substances and will continue to work to keep private citizens and their families safe,” LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke, Director of Field Operations at the Chicago Field House said.

The shipment was turned to Homeland Security Investigations and reports are pending.
