Plane with smoke lands in Japan manages to land safely; It had 213 people on board – El Financiero

This Wednesday An All Nippon Airways plane managed to land safely at Shin Chitose airport, located north of Japanafter what smoke was seen coming out. There were 213 people on board in said aircraft and they were unharmed, as announced by local authorities.

According to officials of the airline ANA, the appearance of smoke was due to a non-flammable oil from a control system that evaporated upon contact with a hot engine. Fortunately this leak did not endanger those on board, but it did trigger a cockpit warning and the precise cause is being investigated.

It was ANA flight 71 from Tokyo’s Haneda airport that It carried 204 passengers and nine crew membersFortunately, all the people on board disembarked safely. After landing, the plane was towed to the arrivals terminal.

For its part, the Chitose city fire department said it mobilized several trucks.

One of the two runways at New Chitose airport, near Sapporo, was temporarily closed to remove oil that spilled from the plane.

What other aircraft accident occurred in Japan during 2024?

In January, a Japan Airlines flight and a coast guard plane collided and burst into flames at Haneda airport. The 379 passengers and crew were evacuated from the JAL plane and they survived. The pilot of the coast guard plane was injured and five crew members were killed.


Later in January, a Korean Air plane carrying 289 people crashed into a parked Cathay Pacific plane when the ground vehicle pushing it skidded in the snow.

In video footage from local television it was possible to see fire and smoke coming out of the side of the Japan Airlines plane as it moved along a runway. The area around the wing then caught fire. An hour later, the shots showed the fuselage completely in flames.

NHK said the plane was an Airbus A-350 that flew from Shin Chitose Airport near the city of Sapporo to Haneda.

In later shots, firefighters were seen working to put out the fire. The flames had spread to much of the plane.

Yoshinori Yanagishima, a Coast Guard spokesman, confirmed the collision between the jet passengers and its flight MA-722, a Bombardier Dash-8.
