In this Lent season, the beginning of which this year coincides with Valentine’s Day, sales of 378 million pesos (mdp) are expected to be generated, which would exceed the amount in the same season last year when it stood at 320 million. mdp, said Daniel García Rosales, president of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (Canirac) of Nuevo León.
He highlighted the fact that the beginning of Lent is on a Wednesday, since that will benefit all shellfish farmers due to the 25 to 30 percent increase in demand for these products compared to what is generated on a usual Wednesday.
García indicated that compared to the 2023 Lent season, now in 2024 there are 54 new seafood and fish businesses for a total of 744 restaurants in the state.
Regarding Valentine’s Day, the manager said that they are considering an economic benefit of 190 million pesos for that single day.
“This February 14 we expect an increase in sales of 10 to 15 percent of consumption in restaurants,” said García.
He added that, however, there are restaurants with a lot of demand for the experience they provide because they are romantic or because of the type of gastronomy, among others, so they will have a 100 percent increase, or even up to 150 percent compared to a traditional Wednesday.
As for the average ticket for the Day of Love and Friendship, it will be in the range of 300 to 1,500 pesos per person, he specified.
