Quissamã – Kickboxing athletes from Quissamã stood out in the State Championship in São Gonçalo, winning the coveted first, second and third place. João Pedro dos Santos, João Felipe Santos, Wagner Azevedo “Frajola” and João Lucas Rocha – the first kids student to represent the city in the sport – were champions in their categories, while Maria Elis Marins and Carlos Alberto Rangel were runners-up and Giulia Resende took third place.
With their performance, the athletes qualified for the Brazilian Championship of the sport, which will take place in June in Espírito Santo. The event took place at Clube Mauá between the 20th and 23rd of April and had the support of the Kickboxing Federation of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FKBERJ) and the participation of almost 1,500 fighters.
The State Championship was also the moment for the debut of under-17 athletes in the sport. Eliseu Rosário, Gabriel Rosário and Igor Castello also represented Quissamã. The Quissamaense delegation was accompanied by master Geyson Ribeiro, who highlighted the team’s great performance and learning from the experience.
“The team’s performance was very good, despite the injured athletes. Wagner had a dislocation, but he advanced, fought and was champion, João Pedro was also injured, he was unable to compete in the second discipline, but he was champion in another. The boys who debutants also fought very well, but the referees decided not to advance in the group. Now it’s time to train even more, continue working, and prepare for the next challenges”, he comments.
The Secretary of Sport and Youth of Quissamã, Isis das Chagas, congratulated the athletes for their performance in the championship. “The Department of Sports and Youth congratulates the athletes for their excellent results in the competition and thanks them for brilliantly representing the municipality of Quissamã”, she said.
