The Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, stated that the government should send the tax reform regulations to Congress this week. In an interview with ‘CNN Brasil’, he said he hopes that Congress will give the green light to the text by the beginning of next year, when the terms of the presidents of the Chamber and Senate, Arthur Lira (PP-AL) and Rodrigo, end Pacheco (PSD-MG).

“I have a very optimistic position that the presidents of the Senate and the Chamber will want to leave an important legacy from the completion of the tax reform regulations,” said Padilha.

The minister said that the government’s priority in the first half of the year is to complete the public accounts consolidation agenda. “That’s why there’s concern about Perse,” said Padilha, referring to the Events Sector’s Emergency Resumption Program. The idea is that the vote on the program will take place this week in the Chamber of Deputies.

The government’s other priority is ecological transition projects, whose deadline expected by Planalto for approval is June 30th.

Padilha acknowledged that there may be difficulties in voting on projects in the second semester because of the municipal elections, but highlighted that, after the call to the polls, there will still be the months of October, November and December.

According to him, during this period there is an expectation of “many important votes”, including the regulation of tax reform.
